Meet Mr. Robertson
My name is Josh Robertson. This year will be my eleventh year in East Lansing and my fourteenth year as an educator. I graduated from the best college on Earth, the one and only Michigan State University, where I majored in Interdisciplinary Studies in Social Science. Go GREEN! I started my teaching career in inner-city Houston, Texas as a member of Teach for America, an organization that strives to close the achievement gap that exists in schools and provide each child with an excellent education. While in Houston, I taught third grade for half a year and second grade for two and a half years. |
I've taught all ten years in East Lansing at Donley Elementary, and am super excited to be starting an eleventh year. During my first year, I taught first grade and enjoyed the opportunity to work with younger students. For the last nine years (as well as this year), I've taught the Room 12 Heroes, third graders who try to be a HERO every day of their life.
After three years in Houston, my wife Karla and I moved back to the Midwest, where we are both from. Karla is currently a first grade teacher at Alaiedon Elementary in Mason, MI. We live in Okemos and have two twin daughters, Emerson and Rowan, who just started kindergarten! They will turn six in November and are WONDERFUL! We also have a little 10 month old baby named Sutton. She was a joy to have last year, and is about ready to start crawling. We love playing with all three girls, love making them laugh, and spent all summer having fun and enjoying their company. |
Mr. Robertson as a 3rd Grader
I attended third grade at Guthridge Elementary in Parsons, Kansas, a small town in the southeast corner of the state. (I moved to Grand Ledge, MI immediately after finishing third grade.) As a third grader, my life was pretty simple. My teacher's name was Mrs. Thompson. My memories of third grade are very few and far between. Other than third grade, my life revolved around my family and everything that had to do with sports. I played sports as much as possible, mostly basketball in my driveway, baseball with my neighbors, and any other game I could be a part of. I loved watching baseball and other sports, and had an extensive collection of baseball cards.
You can check out my third grade school picture to the right, and the photo of my third grade class below. Guess who is the only student not looking at the camera!?! My three best friends are the last three kids on the right side of the top row: Zach in the yellow A's jersey, Jared in the red and white stripes, and Jeremy (my best friend) in the white and yellow stripes. |
